The City of Ostend has been awarded the 'Grote Openruimtebeker' by the VRP.

The City of Ostend received the award for its continued efforts and commitment towards finding and implementing creative and multifunctional ideas in the management of open spaces.

The Green Belt project, where the gardens of Stene take a pivotal role, offers citizens well managed green spaces and leisure opportunities on the edge of the city, while also actively limiting unnecessary enlargement and inefficient space occupation. What was once seen as a fringe area of the city, is now a focal point in new urban development. The different areas of the Green Belt are connected by walkways and bicycle paths.

More information about the gardens of Stene project can be found here.
